I’ve had Panthers on the mind for years now, and I think I’m getting to the point where I’m considering purchasing one next year.. (maybe). So - that brings me to the point.. who has one, and what does OPPO think about it?

100% APPROVED BY THE MERCURY MUSCLE GUY
If I buy a used 4 door sedan in the future that would be at the top of the list.

As a GM fan, an OHV V8 fan, a die-hard No-Fords-For-Me guy, a B-body better than Panther guy (94-96 Impala FTW!), Mod-motor hater, 4.6 is meh guy...
I still want one.

I’m asking, because I really don’t know. What are the advantages of the Marauder over a P71? Wouldn’t/couldn’t one find a used P71 cheaper than the Marauder?

Yes and no. Suspension, seats, 32V motor, front lights and body trim are all different. It has enough substantial changes that you really can’t get it in a P71 without spending a lot of time and money on making a clone.

Underpowered, uncomfortable and ubiquitous. Robust and dependable.

I always liked these cars. They’re just a phone call to ProCharger away from being perfect.
But I’ve always been a muscle car guy so it’s to be expected. Sorry Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. You’re pony cars. Not muscle cars.
Give me a (b-body) Impala SS, a Marauder, a G8, or a Charger. An overweight sedan, a high powered V8 under the hood and aggressive styling.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but don’t bother with a Marauder, and here’s why:
The chassis is not very good in every respect but being large. It is not conducive to a comfortable ride or decent handling, or really anything aside from providing a decent amount of space inside and in the trunk.
The engine. This might get some Ford fans in a bad mood, but the 32V 4.6 in the Marauder isn’t very special. A heavy iron block, un-forged internals, and barely over 300hp. Expect to pay a good chunk of change to make decent power.
Transmission. 4 speed automatic. Need I say more? If you have to get a Marauder, at least get a 2004 as the 4R75W is quite a bit stronger than the weak 4R70W.
I cannot think of any redeeming qualities for the Marauder. I’m sorry people. A 2008 G35 sedan would be faster, more comfortable, and even available in a 6 speed manual (not that I’m suggesting you buy a G35 either. lol).
Just say no to Marauders.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So true. Add in some mild suspension tuning and you have a powerful, comfortable, but still somewhat sporty cruiser built on the toughest platform produced in recent history.
And they look cool. I want a deep red or blue one.

don’t forget it’s the only panther with a front center console and console shifter.

true. i think I mentally lumped in the interior with seats, but yours is more complete and accurate.

Haha, as i just explained on another post...it’s kind of my job these days to make sure cars are accurately depicted.

As a Panther owner myself, literally every Panther owner out there aspires to meet or beat the Marauder with their own car. It is the high water mark for the platform. In fact, some of the more popular upgrades to our cars include oem MM parts. That said, they’re pricey. There’s no MM owner out there who today who isn’t in love with their car, and ain’t none of them priced to sell. That extra money could be going into preventative maintenance on the front end, ignition, accessories, transmission, etc. But then you wouldn’t have the 3v 4.6l either.
If you got the money, find a good condition MM, enjoy it, then sell it before it breaks.
If you have less money and like wrenching on cars, get a GM or TC, spend some dough to fix it up, and enjoy it for as long as you’d like.

The Crown Vic LX Sport had the floor console & shifter as well, but they are pretty rare, from what I understand

I didn’t know either.. gotta give the creds to Saabkyle04 on that.. it is pretty nice though. I think it comes with that neat little decklid spoiler as well. I am not sure what else it comes with though.
